Throughout the past twenty-five years, more than 4,000 state and local
policy-makers, elected officials, campaign consultants, lobbyists,
commissioners, professors, journalists, businesses, community-based
organizations, schools, teachers and others have contributed time
to our youth programs over the past twenty years.
Capitol Focus, our flagship program, is supported
by prominent elected officials from both parties, school districts
and communities throughout the state, and a consortium of professional
associations and corporations who share its concerns for building
a more educated and active youth.
The California Center was established thirty years
ago and originally served as the non-profit host for the widely
respected CALIFORNIA JOURNAL magazine. For the past fifteen years,
the California Center has focused its efforts on youth development
and civic participation, with an increased emphasis on preparing
youth to cooperate and compete effectively with adults in the political
realm. As our successes increased, so has our ability to introduce
new outreach programs focusing on youth development through a service
and leadership medium.
